Eventually Something Cool Will Happen. - March 1, 2007

Okay, I could start this by saying "sorry its been so long" but you know me by now and my lack of newsletter writing and updating gumption. You know how it is, a little bit of life has to happen before you have anything to say about it.
Well, I've got a new project called Panhandle (www.myspace.com/panhandleband. It is the conglomeration of three bands forming one giant stellar bluegrass/alt./americana band with some of the best and prominant local musicians. We are currently in the studio recording our first album with -of course- the legendary Lucky Lew (Grandaddy,Howe Gelb, Saturn Nine Mine, Sounds Like Quiche). There are 4 unleashed tracks on myspace for your listening pleasure.
I'm still in the writing process for my next Dave Hanley album which I started in early winter. Money is tight and quality recording is not free so lets just say I'm in no hurry. My favorite track right now is an instrumental called " Axis of Knievel".

Spring and summer tours are on there way! March 18 -24 we will be in TX opening for Tom VandenAvond (www.myspace.com/tomvandenavond
at:
3/20 Hole in the Wall (Austin)
3/21 the Oaks (Manor)

April 18 I have been invited -which means YOU have been invited- to a
Devil In the Woods Records Showcase in San Francisco at Club Waziema(542 Divisadero). Devil In the Woods is a highly reputable independent record label that over the years has discovered national acts such as M.Ward,Death Cab For Cutie and Fiver. I'm pretty happy about this development.

Panhandle has submitted our electronic press kit to the PBS television show " Road Trip Nation" in hopes of the use of our music in the show through out the season.
April 21st we will be opening for The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit(www.myspace.com/thegoodluckthriftstoreoutfit
and the Pine Box Boys (www.thepineboxboys.com
June 1 and 2 we will playing two shows at the One Love One World Music & Culture Festival in Tuolumne City, Ca. Which is just outside of Sonora on your way to Yosemite Nat'l Park. Friday the 1st we will do a special "in the round" acoustic performance and Saturday the 2nd we will be on the main stage in the noon day sun, suits, ties, amps and cold frosty ones doing what we do best.
Look for a late spring/early summer tour from Panhandle up to the Great Northwest.

Well that's all for now good folks- stay warm for now and cool when its hot because I probably won't be back until you need your jacket again unless some crazy urge overcomes me to sit here in 110 degrees and type...
nope..heh heh heh..... but all- in- all of the good stuff going on eventually something cool will happen.

Be Good To Yourselves - October 12, 2006

Hello There Good Folks!

The word "busy" doesn't quite describe our summer but $#@!&$ busy is what we have been. Once again, I apologize for my lack of updates but I figure absence makes the heart grow fonder and plus its a pretty saying to cover up for my laziness...heh heh.

After 9 days 7 shows 1700 miles and two fights we made our little tour up to the Great Pacific Northwest (as far up as Portland) and back in my 1976 Jeep Wagoneer complete with no a/c ( it was 103 in Portland which was the average temp on the west coast that week) and no radio.Just us and the road most of the time which left lots of time for some much needed reflection.

We slept on floors, couches, front seats, futons, lawns, pool furniture and decks. We played at restaurants, breweries, bistros and(thank you so much Lynnea and Jim at www.stillmovingyoga.com) yoga schools.Thank you for sending my sunglasses and Bens watch!

Thank you to Tara (not terra) for putting up with all of us drinking your beer, pissing off your landlord and snoring so loud Mt. Ashland lost 3 inches from the earthquake like shuttering it was subject to- not to mention everyone in the house. Thank you and... no we're not famous yet...heh heh.Oh yeah! and thank you for loaning me 100 bucks to buy my ukele (which by the way has made it's way on to the next album)

Thank you to our good friends The PineBox Boys for letting us share your bill at Six Rivers Brewery in Arcata.
Check out www.thepineboxboys.com- the best darkgrass band on the western hemisphere. and good friends of the Dave Hanley Band.

By the end of November we'll have played 45 dates this year. I hope to have doubled that number by the same time next year.

I want to take a second to thank all of you that come to our shows and support us.With all that it takes to keep a band together and stay playing live it really makes a difference and fuels us to see so many good people enjoying themselves to the music we're playing. The countless hours spent booking, working our jobs, raising kids, practicing and just generally living doesn't seem so tough. We love you guys too.... no, really we do.

To top it all off we've been nominated for a Modesto Area Music Award this year in the acoustic/americana category. You have to give your email, your name and town you're from to be able to vote but I promise they won't spam your email account.
We would love to win our category. So if you have a second go here:
www.modestoview.com/mama
and vote for us in the acoustic/americana category.

Be good to yourselves and we'll see you soon.

It's been awhile! - September 11, 2006

Oh my gosh, Bad, busy Dave! This is Cherub, and I just realised that there hasn't been an update since the tour was announced... like... three months ago? Four? Well anyway, we toured during that vile heatwave in a car with no air, but our shows were awesome and fun, and everybody was so sweet to us - putting us up for the night, feeding us... My faith in humankind was totally restored during our trip. Not to mention Oregon is so pretty it's like a fairytale.

We've had a lot of shows recently, as well. Two in a row on Saturday - one at a really cool camp nearby Strawberry, and the other at the Newman Westside Theatre. It's so beautifully restored inside - all Art Deco and Art Nouveau... If you've never been there, please go to a show - you will be so happy. Farris, the theater mum, made us a huge dinner and treated us like royalty. We love the Westside Theatre! Kiss!

Okay, I'm done rambeling... but one more thing: We've been nominated for the MAMAs again! So vote for us by clicking on the pretty girl. Thank you!

Run Faster - May 21, 2006

Hi Good Folks-

Well, the tour is booked, we're saving our pennies, tuning up the car, working, moving, going on vacation, raising kids, playing shows, booking more shows and sleeping where time permits.
If it sounds like we're busy you're right,we are.
Speaking of being too busy if you know of an independent label, booking agent or publicist that you think might a good match for this band we would love to talk to you or that person.

It's been awhile since I've had the time to write a newsletter- I apologize.

There was talk of a live album a few months back but after several recorded performances none of them were worth their salt so we've just decided to take our time, write new songs and gather up the money we need to record a new album, however long it takes.
I will be re-recording 2 songs that I wrote while with the Puffin Billies (Perfect Day and Bandalino) as well as a couple of songs that I have written as part of the 52 Weeks Club (www.52weeksofsongs.com) pretty soon we will be playing these songs live.

Tom VandenAvond is back from Spain with a newly mixed and mastered album with 3 new songs penned during his travels that will spin your head around.
Monday May 22 *tomorrow* Taylor Webster and Matt Cordano (GoodLuck ThriftStore Outfit) and myself will be 'ol Toms backing band at the Cow Track Lounge opening for Kenneth Bryant (Austin TX) at 9 pm.
Check out some of Toms tunes here: www.myspace.com./tomvandenavond

It's been really good seeing all of you at the shows lately as well as the new people I've met. I have to say you are some of the best people around. Thanks for supporting us and enjoying the music.
Check out the "shows" page for dates near you. I look forward to seeing you again and meeting new folks this summer.
If you have any questions or just want to drop me or anyone in the band a line, we'd love to hear from you.

Eat something really spicy and call your mom.

Hey there Good Folks~
Well we've decided to move the whole dang website over to Hostbaby - a much easier user friendly company- the same company that brought you CDbaby. So we should be able to be a little more informative as to where we're playing and what's going on in general. So have a look around and thanks for stopping by.
